Marian Hackett pops the tape out, hands it to Murdoch.
MARIAN HACKETT
Might want to give your security guard a couple of “personal days.”
They share a smile.

Thanks for your assistance.

She smiles, grabs her hardware case. But suddenly she eyes Murdoch very carefully.
MARIAN HACKETT (cont’d)
Oh, but I probably will swing by the local cemetery. Just in case... you know... someone recently crawled out of their grave.
MURDOCH
(mildly)
So that’s what our tax money goes for?
MARIAN HACKETT
I’m one of the good guys, Dr. Murdoch.
She goes.
Murdoch sits down in his chair, suddenly very thoughtful.
24 EXT. CEMETERY — NIGHT 24
Karl walks past one headstone after another. He comes to one that reads KARL TODMAN. He just stares at it.
25 INT. MURDOCH’S STUDY — NIGHT 25
The Fang Gang emerge from the secret entrance behind Murdoch.
ESSIE
We heard the whole thing.
MURDOCH
Anybody want to guess what happens if a government agent goes to Karl’s grave, and he’s not there?
Merrill’s eyes go wide.
MERRILL
Oh, no.
ESSIE
What?
MERRILL
What happens if he is there?
Murdoch stares at them. His eyes flick back and forth. No
Karl.

MURDOCH
This could be bad. (a beat) Where’s Drew?
The three of them look at each other.
ESSIE
He was right here a minute ago!
26 EXT. CEMETERY — NIGHT 26
Karl stares at his grave, confused, upset.
KARL’S HANDS — FLASHBACK
Karl’s hands struggle as earth rains down into the open grave... [As before.]
KARL
closes his eyes. His body rocks with emotional pain.
KARL’S HANDS — FLASHBACK
Karl’s hands struggle, tearing away the dirt. [As before.] But now Karl finally climbs out of the dirt. He’s pale, filthy. Exhausted. And terrified. He climbs all the way out of his grave. Looks at his headstone in shock. Runs his hands over it, bewildered.
KARL
Karl starts to cry. His body is wracked with sobs.
KARL
I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.
He goes down on his knees, weeping.
KARL (cont’d)
I didn’t mean to, Mom. I didn’t know. I’m so sorry.
He falls to his hands and knees, and starts clawing at the dirt. Soon he is clawing feverishly at the dirt, like a dog, dirt
flying as he digs his way back into the grave.

27 EXT. ELSEWHERE IN THE CEMETERY — NIGHT 27
Marion Hackett flicks on a simple device. [This might be the device used by the vamp killers in episode #1.] It looks like a double-barrelled maglight. The top flashlight shines bright white light. The bottom one is dark, for now. She sweeps the flashlight over the headstones.
